Chi Siamo - Who we are

 

Nova Scrimia is a culture, is a research group, is a method of learning Fencing and Italian Martial Arts (IMAs), is a group of people who come from an Italian traditions of martial arts. We all vowed to difend, practice and promote our martial heritage, to rispect it, to follow it's code of honor, knowledge and strengh, and to make it available to anyone who is open to join the Italian Martial Art heritage. We study, research, practice and protect the knowledge of Italian Martial Arts. We developed our own teaching method during these years,  based on the fencing and regional traditions that enriched for centuries our Peninsula, but focused to actualize the practice based on the currents time, needs, knowledge, science and technolgy. Most of us keep walking on this Path, each of us with our differences and peculiar preferences. The body of knowledge of Italian Martial Arts is huge and rich, and we all share our individul knoweldge, learned form families, friends, instructors, Masters and our own culture. Nova Scrimia is a body of knowledge that grows with people, coming from the past, and where people grow within by moving towards the future. We are also different, different artists and people, as we all might explore, preserve or reserach different aspects of the Art. Scrimia or Italian fencing, is not only art but also Science and as a science, Italian Fencing is one, unique and universal in its principles. As it is true for the Italian culture and for our peninsula, the Art is one but made by many colors and flavors, collected over the millenia. There are no "schools" with one knowledge better than others, like there is only one math or biology, there is only one science of fencing, as already the Italian renaissance Master wrote. However there are different martial artists, fencers, and researchers, and everyone can give, take and offer to the growing community of genuine Italian fencing and martial arts, and Nova Scrimia does its best to contribute and sustain our living tradition.
